A motorcycle accident in New York resulted in serious injuries to both pedestrian and motorcycle rider.

The motorcycle crash happened on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. A motorcyclist on a Ducati motorcycle was traveling east on West 96th Street when he slammed into a pedestrian attempting to cross at the intersection of W. 96th and Amsterdam Avenue.

The pedestrian, a 73-year-old man, sustained significant head injuries as a result of the accident. He was rushed to nearby Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, where doctors treated him for his injuries. Officials later indicated that the man suffered life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle driver was also taken to the hospital, where doctors treated him for non-life-threatening injuries. He was later listed in serious but stable condition.

While both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian recover from their respective injuries, the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is trying to determine who was at fault for the motorcycle accident. Initial indications are that the pedestrian may have caused the accident by walking outside the crosswalk. Police have yet to cite anyone for a traffic violation, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Another elderly pedestrian was seriously injured on the same night in Brooklyn, NY. Just a few hours after the Manhattan motorcycle accident, a 71-year-old man was attempting to walk across Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park South when he was struck by a Ford E250 van. Afterward, the pedestrian was taken to Brookdale Hospital to receive medical treatment.

Police officers who investigated the auto accident later indicated that the pedestrian may have been at fault for the crash because the driver had a steady green light the whole way. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed in the case.
