New Jersey Foreign Exchange Student Killed in Motorcycle Accident

motorcycle-accident-with-car
A student from New Jersey’s Drew University was killed in a motorcycle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. The motorcycle he was riding went off the road after striking a concrete barrier. He was pronounced dead at the Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center.

The young man was an exchange student from China pursuing an art and economics double major course of study. The motorcycle collided with a Mercedes Benz traveling southbound near the 110.8-mile marker.

According to the Office of the Attorney General in New Jersey, the number of motorcycle accident fatalities is rising. Thousands of motorcycle accidents occur in the state each year. A motorcycle accident in New Jersey means the rider or passenger has a 75 percent chance of injury.

It’s important to note that motorcyclists involved in an accident with another motor vehicle in New Jersey won’t get help from auto or motorcycle insurance carriers to pay medical bills. If you need medical treatment for injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash:

– You may pay for doctor and hospital bills out-of-pocket (Very difficult for most people)

– Utilize your private health insurance (The insurer may decline to pay)

– Arrange for doctors and hospitals to put a lien on a pending lawsuit in which you agree to repay doctors from verdict or settlement compensation

Under this concept, your motorcycle accident  attorney seeks compensation from the at-fault driver’s insurer to pay the costs of your medical care, lost income, and pain and suffering.

If your insurer covers the costs of medical care relating to injuries sustained in the accident, the insurer may also have a right to place a lien on the case to recover payments it made to treating providers. An experienced motorcycle accident attorney can tell you whether your insurance company has this right.
