Fetty Wap, the 25-year-old rapper who is probably best known for his hit song “Trap Queen,” made headlines a few months ago when he was involved in a scary motorcycle accident. Now he is making headlines again as he continues his recovery from accident-related injuries and appears on the verge of releasing newly recorded music.
In late September, just one day after the release of his debut studio album and a short time before it reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, Fetty Wap was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident. The crash occurred while the hip-hop star was driving on a roadway in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. According to law enforcement, the rapper lost control of his bike and collided with another motorist. Fetty Wap was reportedly attempting to pass a different motor vehicle as that car’s driver waited to make a left-hand turn.
Fetty Wap, who was ejected from his seat as a result of the accident, sustained significant injuries. Numerous media outlets and websites, including TMZ, released photographs of Fetty Wap wearing an oxygen mask and being tended to by medical personnel after the devastating collision. Emergency medical responders treated the injured motorcyclist at the scene and then transported him to a local hospital so that he could be further examined. He was later listed in stable condition and ultimately released. Thankfully, the driver of the other car involved in the multi-vehicle crash did not suffer any serious injuries — he was treated for abdominal pain and released from the hospital.
Fetty Wap’s injuries, which included a broken leg, caused the rapper to cancel several tour dates and promotional appearances in the weeks following the motorcycle accident. To make matters worse, the music superstar also faced criminal charges in the aftermath of the crash. Shortly after the accident, police cited Fetty Wap for multiple traffic violations, including driving without a license, driving without insurance and failure to provide valid registration.
Although Fetty Wap was issued summonses for the traffic offenses, he was not faulted for causing the motorcycle accident. The star singer was reportedly careful while attempting to drive past the car in front of him; he simply did not see the other vehicle headed in the opposite direction. This was a high-profile example of a dangerous reality for all motorcycle riders: a motorcycle accident can happen to anyone, regardless of how safe the driver is or how many precautions they take.
